Brick Rhythm | Contemporary Brick Facade Design
Concept and Site Context
Located along Khonj Boulevard in southern Fars Province, Brick Rhythm is a mixed-use building combining commercial spaces on the ground floor with residential units above.
This dual functionality shaped a façade that expresses two architectural attitudes — transparency and openness for the showroom below, and privacy and calmness for the living areas above.
The project is set within a hot, arid climate, prompting a design that responds directly to intense sunlight and heat while maintaining aesthetic harmony and urban identity.
Design Concept
The central idea was to create a climate-responsive brick skin that acts as both a sculptural element and an environmental filter.
By folding the brick façade and extending it across balconies and rooflines, the building gains a soft, continuous envelope that generates shade and depth while giving the structure a dynamic rhythm.
- Reducing direct solar exposure
- Preserving privacy in upper-floor residences
- Defining a strong visual identity along the boulevard
Materials and Composition
According to the project’s material board:
- Brick: The dominant and identity-giving element, using warm tones that resonate with Khonj’s natural landscape.
- Concrete: A structural backbone that blends with brickwork to enhance durability.
- Metal: Used in window frames and louvers to create a modern contrast.
- Greenery: Integrated into balconies as living filters, softening the heat and introducing a biophilic connection between architecture and nature.
Climate Response
Two key strategies define the building’s environmental performance:
- Terrace planters act as breathing zones, filtering dust and heat while cooling the interior through evapotranspiration.
- Landscaped green line in front of the building reduces surface reflection and creates a local microclimate.
The curved brick shell not only shades and protects but also functions as an urban landmark — a rhythmic play of light and shadow that changes throughout the day.
Architectural Interpretation
Brick Rhythm represents a dialogue between tradition and modernity — between the tactile warmth of handmade brick and the precision of contemporary detailing.
The result is an architecture that is contextual yet progressive: rooted in place, responsive to climate, and emotionally engaging.
The project bridges two worlds — the vernacular identity of southern Iran and the refined logic of modern architectural order.
Through the rhythm of its brick screen, it speaks the language of both heritage and innovation.
